Introducing Lineage Explorer

Ensuring strong governance and accuracy of reporting is complicated without the right tools - and we hear this everyday. Do more with less is a common theme.

We're excited to announce the new Lineage Explorer in Data Vizioner - giving you direct visibility of upstream and downstream dependencies for fast root cause analysis, detailed documentation and effective governance. 

What is it?

The new Lineage Explorer can be found in the sidebar and allows upstream and downstream navigation of dependencies. The same interaction model applies whether you start from a report visual, a measure, a column, or a table.

Why is it important?

Having the ability to see how your semantic model and reports are built at a glance saves time, drives efficiency and helps to mitigate risk.

• Fast root cause investigation: When a report or calculation behaves unexpectedly, you can trace dependencies step-by-step to identify likely causes without having to scan your entire semantic model.
  
  
• Governance and review workflows: Governance teams can identify where sensitive or critical objects are used, even without full impact analysis or diagram based views.
  
  
• Suitable for large and shared environments: The Lineage Explorer works when semantic models and reports are shared across many workspaces, where built in tools often fall short.

How does it work?

1. Select a report visual, a measure, a column, or a table anywhere in the application to reveal the sidebar
2. Click on "Lineage Explorer" to see how the selected item is used in your semantic model and reports
3. You can also click on items within the explorer to drill down further to gain a deeper understanding.

Who is it for?

The new Lineage Explorer is available to everyone, with support for full reports and thin reports with a seperate semantic model. The level of detail provided may vary by tier.
